VolksMuller Gravel RallySprint at Sydney Dragway
Round 4 of the 2016 Simpson Race Products NSW Rallysprint series was held at Sydney Dragway on the 22nd of May. The Volksmuller sponsored event was organised and run by Sydney’s North Shore Sporting Car Club on what turned out to be a warm but smokey Sydney day due to back burning across the region. With very little rain in recent weeks, dust was sure to add to already low visibility to make for a challenging event.
With most competitors finishing their final run, Charlie Drake had been leading most of the day and was looking like taking the top spot on the podium, but suffered from fuel issues in the last run. The fuel issues were that he was running low!
Chris Giddens was the eventual winner with Charlie Drake coming home in second position, just one tenth of a second slower in overall times. JJ Hatton took third and the final podium position. Interestingly, all three of these competitors will be back competing the following weekend at the National Capital Rally in Canberra.
The Volksmuller Rallysprint is conducted by North Shore Sporting Car club, which is a Sydney based car club that run a variety of events including khanacross, motorkhana, tarmac rally and gravel rally events. The Rallysprint series is supported by Simpson Race Products who have been supplying quality race gear in Australia for over 30 years.
