Fraser Island – Luxury Camping – QLD
Have you ever considered camping on Fraser Island? Many people take their tents or camper trailers and setup in the dunes or at one of the many camping areas on the Island and have a great time. But what if you want to go without the hassle of tents and towing a trailer?
Now don’t get me wrong, I love camping, but Fraser Island is one of those places that has so many things to do, you’re unlikely to want to spend a whole lot of time in your tent. So an alternative approach is to rent a house. There are many private houses available to rent on the island and most of them are setup specifically for holiday adventurers. On our last trip to Fraser Island we stayed in two houses. Our first week was in a hose at Poyungan Rocks in the middle of the island right on the east coast. The ideal location to visit nearly every attraction on the south end of the Island. For our second week, we stayed to the north at Orchid Beach, but more about that in another post.
Poyungan on Fraser is the house we rented and the weekly rate for both the upper and lower floors is very reasonable. The house easily sleeps 10 people so it makes for a great house for two families, which is what we had. Located right on the northern exit of the bypass road around Poyungan Rocks, the house is literally metres away from the beach. The house it self is well appointed with a great big dining table capable of seating the whole two families. Bedrooms are comfortable and both floors have bathrooms and kitchen.
The house is also ideally situated about half way between Eurong and Happy Valley, so access to the roads into the centre of the Island is perfect. A visit to Central Station, Lake Wabby or Lake McKenzie is a short trip away. The Maheno Wreck is also a short trip up the beach past Eli Creek.
GETTING THERE: The house is located on the Eastern Beach, about 10 kilometers north of Eulong. To get to the Island you’ll need a 4wd and travel over on one of the barges at Inskip Point or Hervey Bay.
